Straumann vs Neodent in Turkey: Are They the Same Dental Implants?

FineUp Clinic Editorial Team
Clinical review: Dr. Arzu Uluköylü

If you're comparing dental implant clinics in Turkey, you may have noticed that some advertise Straumann implants while others offer implants made by companies in the Straumann Group. The names are closely connected, but the products are not necessarily the same.

Neodent is a Brazilian implant brand owned by the Straumann Group. It is not a counterfeit or an unbranded version of Straumann. It has its own implant designs, materials, surfaces and prosthetic components. The distinction matters when two quotations appear to offer the same brand but specify different implant systems.

This guide compares Straumann and Neodent, using Straumann BLX and Neodent Grand Morse as examples, and explains which details to check before implant treatment in Turkey.

Straumann and Neodent: the key difference

Straumann is a Swiss dental implant brand. Neodent was founded in Curitiba, Brazil, in 1993 and later became part of the Straumann Group. Both are established manufacturers, but belonging to the same corporate group does not make their implants interchangeable.

This table compares Straumann BLX and Neodent Grand Morse, not every model sold under either brand. Confirm the exact model and components in your treatment plan.

For example, Straumann BLX uses the company's Roxolid titanium-zirconium alloy, SLActive surface and TorcFit prosthetic connection. Neodent's Grand Morse system has its own titanium implant designs, Acqua hydrophilic surface options and a 16° internal Morse taper connection. These are two distinct systems with different component catalogues.

In other words, “Straumann Group implant” identifies a corporate relationship. “Straumann BLX” or “Neodent Grand Morse” identifies a specific implant system.

What is a Straumann implant?

Straumann has developed a range of implant systems for different surgical and restorative situations, including Bone Level, Bone Level Tapered and BLX. It is therefore useful to know the exact model rather than simply the brand name.

The BLX system combines a tapered implant design with Roxolid, an alloy consisting of approximately 85% titanium and 15% zirconium. Straumann developed this alloy to offer greater mechanical strength than conventional commercially pure titanium, including in certain reduced-diameter applications.

BLX is available with Straumann's SLActive hydrophilic surface and uses the TorcFit prosthetic connection. Its thread geometry is designed to help clinicians obtain primary stability during placement, although the outcome still depends on the patient's bone and the surgical plan.

Roxolid and SLActive are technologies associated with specified Straumann products. They should not automatically be assumed to be present in every implant sold by another company in the group.

What is Neodent, and is it made by Straumann?

Neodent is a separate implant manufacturer within the Straumann Group. Founded in Brazil, it developed its own implant portfolio before becoming part of the group and continues to sell implants under the Neodent name.

One of its principal systems is Grand Morse. It uses a deep, 16° internal Morse taper connection with internal indexing and platform switching. Different implant designs within the Grand Morse range are intended for different bone conditions and treatment protocols.

Neodent also offers Acqua, a hydrophilic implant surface designed to support the early interaction between the implant and surrounding biological fluids. It serves a broadly similar purpose to other hydrophilic implant surfaces but is a separate technology from Straumann's SLActive.

There is nothing misleading about a clinic offering Neodent and accurately identifying it as a Straumann Group brand. Confusion arises when the group name is used without making the actual implant manufacturer and model clear.

Roxolid vs titanium: does implant material matter?

A major technical difference between the two example systems is their material specification. Straumann BLX is made from Roxolid, a titanium-zirconium alloy. Neodent Grand Morse implants use titanium.

Roxolid was developed to increase mechanical strength. This may be relevant when an implant with a reduced diameter is being considered, although choosing a narrower implant still requires adequate bone support and a suitable prosthetic plan.

Titanium itself has a long clinical history in implant dentistry. A difference in alloy does not establish that one brand will have a better outcome for every patient. Bone anatomy, implant positioning, gum health, bite forces and long-term maintenance can have a substantial influence on success.

The more useful question is why the dentist has selected a particular material and implant diameter for your case.

SLActive vs Acqua: are the implant surfaces the same?

No. Both are hydrophilic surface technologies, but they are proprietary to different implant systems.

Straumann's SLActive surface is intended to improve initial surface wettability and support early osseointegration. Neodent's Acqua surface has a similar general objective, but its manufacturing process and supporting evidence should be assessed separately.

A hydrophilic surface does not guarantee that a patient can receive a permanent crown immediately. Immediate or early loading requires careful assessment of primary stability, bone quality, the restoration and other clinical factors.

What about the implant-abutment connection?

The implant placed in the jawbone is only one part of the final restoration. An abutment joins the implant to the crown, bridge or other prosthesis.

Straumann BLX uses its TorcFit connection, while Neodent Grand Morse uses a 16° internal Morse taper. The connection determines which prosthetic components can be used and influences the restorative workflow.

Original manufacturer components and third-party compatible parts are not automatically equivalent simply because they can be fitted to the same implant. When comparing quotations, ask which abutment is included and whether it comes from the implant manufacturer or another supplier.

This is particularly useful for international patients who may need maintenance or a replacement crown from a different dentist years later.

Are Medentika and Anthogyr also Straumann implants?

Medentika and Anthogyr are additional manufacturers within the Straumann Group. Medentika has German roots, while Anthogyr is based in France. Both have their own product lines.

A clinic may legitimately work with several brands in the same corporate group, but “part of Straumann Group” and “a Straumann-branded implant” remain different descriptions. Your treatment plan should state the manufacturer, model and prosthetic components rather than relying on an umbrella brand name.

How to compare Straumann and Neodent prices in Turkey

An advertised implant price is only useful when you know what it covers. One quotation may include surgical placement alone. Another may include the implant fixture, abutment, final crown and follow-up visits. Bone grafting, sinus procedures and temporary restorations may be priced separately.

A clear quotation should identify the exact implant model and dimensions, the manufacturer of the abutment, the type of final crown or bridge, and any additional treatment required.

If a clinic quotes for “Straumann”, ask whether it means an implant sold under the Straumann brand, such as a specified BLX or Bone Level model, or a product from another company in the Straumann Group. The distinction should be reflected in the written treatment plan.

Which implant systems does FineUp Clinic use?

FineUp Clinic offers dental implant treatment in Istanbul using established systems including Straumann, BEGO, Hiossen and Osstem. Implant selection is based on the patient's examination, imaging, available bone and the planned restoration.

Patients requesting a Straumann-branded implant can ask for the exact model proposed for their treatment, along with details of the abutment and final prosthesis. FineUp also has an in-house dental laboratory involved in planning and producing restorations, allowing the surgical and prosthetic stages to be coordinated.

The choice should be explained in terms of your anatomy and restorative needs, not simply the reputation of a brand.

How can you verify which implant you received?

After treatment, ask for the information from your implant packaging or implant passport. It should record the manufacturer's name, product reference, diameter, length and lot number.

Keep a copy with your dental records. If another clinician later needs to repair a crown or obtain compatible parts, the exact implant details will be more useful than a general description such as “Swiss implant” or “Straumann Group implant”.

Frequently asked questions

Is Neodent the same as Straumann?

No. Neodent is a separate brand owned by the Straumann Group. It has its own implant designs and prosthetic components. A Neodent Grand Morse implant is not a Straumann BLX implant.

Is Neodent a fake Straumann implant?

No. Neodent is a genuine manufacturer within the Straumann Group. The important issue is whether a clinic accurately identifies the implant it is offering.

Is every Straumann implant made in Switzerland?

Straumann is a Swiss brand with major Swiss manufacturing operations, but manufacturing locations can vary across its international portfolio. If the precise country of manufacture matters to you, request the product reference and confirm it for the exact implant proposed.

Which implant lasts longer, Straumann or Neodent?

The brand name alone cannot answer this. Implant survival is influenced by the model, surgical placement, bone and gum health, prosthetic design, bite forces and maintenance. Ask your clinician what clinical evidence supports the specific system proposed for your case.

What should I ask before agreeing to an implant in Turkey?

Ask for the exact manufacturer and model, implant dimensions, abutment manufacturer, final restoration specification and a written explanation of any additional procedures. Request your implant documentation after placement so future dentists can identify the system.
